Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik’s 25th Wedding Anniversary

Happy 50th Anniversary to Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik of Denmark, who got married on this day in 1967. While the couple will spend the day privately on the Royal Yacht Dannebrog, for their 25th Anniversary in 1992, they had a lavish celebration with Royal Guests and Relatives from around Europe!

On June 9th, the Danish and Greek Royal families welcomed foreign royal guests at Amalienborg Palace, including Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway, the Prince of Wales, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain, and King Carl Gustaf, Queen Silvia, and Princess Margretha of Sweden.

That evening, the Danish Government hosted a Banquet at Kronborg Castle in honour of Queen Margrethe (wearing a Jørgen Bender silk brocade gown with her Pearl Poire Tiara, the Danish Crown Diamond Parure, stomacher, and floral brooches from the Crown Jewels) and Prince Henrik (wearing the Order of the Elephant), which was also attended by the Danish and Foreign Royal Families.

Queen Ingrid (wearing the Danish Ruby Parure), Countess Renée-Yvonne de Laborde de Monpezat (in the Dagmar Floral Tiara and Diamond Flower Brooch), King Constantine and Queen Anne Marie of Greece (wearing the Greek Emerald Tiara and Parure), and Princess Bendikte (in Queen Sofia’s Star Tiara) and Prince Richard of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg.

Other Royal Guests included King Harald, Queen Sonja (wearing Queen Josephine’s Emerald Tiara), and Princess Marie Louise of Norway (in King Olav’s Gift Tiara), King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden (wearing in Queen Sofia’s 9-Prong Tiara), King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain (in the Mellerio Shell Tiara), Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands (wearing the Wurttemberg Pearl Tiara), Grand Duke Jean and Grand Duchess Josephine Charlotte of Luxembourg (in the Belgian Scroll Tiara and her Sapphire Necklace), and the Prince of Wales.

The following day, June 10th, there was a series of events in Copenhagen, which included Service of Thanksgiving, a Carriage Ride through Copenhagen, and a Balcony Appearance for the Royal Couple and their Guests.

Gala Dinner

In the evening, Queen Margrethe (wearing a lilac tulle Jørgen Bender gown with Floral Aigrette Tiara and a new Gold, Ruby, and Pearl Parure, which was a present from her husband) and Prince Henrik hosted a Ball at Fredensborg Castle, which was proceeded by a Dinner in the Palace Gardens.

  1. This is such a cool post! I was delighted to see pictures of all the guests and what they were wearing. I especially liked to see the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. They’re such a discrete couple that they’re often overlooked even though she has splendid jewelry and wears them well. Lovely way to spend a Saturday morning!

  2. Gosh, I forgot to say that the white dress Queen Margrethe wore for her balcony appearance and ride through town was very excellent! It could be worn today and be totally stylish!
