Take a look below at scenes from King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain’s State Visit to China in 1978, as part of a tour of Asia which also included visits to Iran and Iraq.

King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia were greeted by Premier Hua Kuo-feng at Beijing Airport.

Afterwards, King Juan Carlos had meetings with the Chinese Government, while Queen Sofia visited a Nursery School and met children.

In the evening, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia attended a Gala Dinner hosted by Teng Tsiao-ping at the Great Hall of the People.

On Day 2, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia visited the Forbidden City, saw a traditional dance, and visited the Great Wall of China.

Engagements on Day 3 included meetings, a boat ride, a performance, and an observation.
