Queen signs Canadian Constitution Act, 1982

Queen Elizabeth II and Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau (father of current Prime Minister Justin Trudeau) signing the Canadian Constitution Act on this day in 1982 in Ottawa. The Act allowed the Canadian Government amend their own Constitution without requiring approval from Britain, which was the final step in the process of Independence from the United Kingdom. Canada will celebrate its 150th Anniversary this year.
