Queen in Bedfordshire

Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh opened the new Centre for Elephant Care at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo and opened the Priory View Independent living scheme in Bedfordshire on April 11th.

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh started their day at the ZSL Whipsnade Zoo. They were met by officials upon arrival on their way to the Elephant Centre, met the Head Elephant Keeper, and viewed the elephant team carrying out daily care tasks such as nail filing and mouth care. The Queen and Duke met baby elephant “Elizabeth” who was named to celebrate her 90th Birthday, and the Centre’s project team in front of the elephant paddock before proceeding to the amphitheatre where the Queen unveiled a plaque to mark the formal opening of the Centre.

Later, the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh visited Priory View in Dunstable, an independent living scheme for older residents. They were met with officials on arrival before going on a tour of the facilities, where they visited the hair salon, meeting clients and hairdressers at work, before moving into the restaurant where they met the building’s architects and designers. Next, the Queen and Duke toured the spa and saw residents engaged in wellbeing treatments such as massage and an aerobics class. They met one of the residents and were shown their apartment. After a private lunch, the Queen unveiled a plaque to mark the formal opening of Priory View before departing.

The Queen wore a lilac Stewart Parvin coat and Rachel Trevor Morgan hat, pairing her Three Strand Pearl Necklace with the Daffodil Spray Brooch. The Duke of Edinburgh wore a navy suit with a dark tie.
