Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall in Italy- Day 4

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall are visiting Italy from March 31st to April 5th on advice from the British Government. They are based in Florence, and will visit Vicenza, Naples, Amatrice and Rome as well as the Vatican. On Day 4, they visited a market, saw restoration of works of art, attended an event at the Palazzo Pitti. The Prince also visited a pastoral organisation, and gave awards at the British Institute. In the evening, the Prince and Duchess attended a dinner at the British Institute in Florence, where he was presented with the Renaissance Man of the Year award.

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall started their day at the Sant’Ambrogio Market in Florence, where they tasted some traditional Tuscan food and fresh produce as part of the Slow food movement. Afterwards, they visited Opificio delle Pietre Dure, a public institution that restores works of art, where they saw state of the art restoration laboratories, and some of the restoration work in action. The Prince and Duchess also attended an event for the Italian Wool Industry and the Prince of Wales’s Campaign for Wool at the Palazzo Pitti.

The Prince of Wales also visited Caritas Italiana, a pastoral organisation committed to supporting vulnerable people through volunteering, where he played the classic Italian card game ‘Tresette’ with some of the residents. He also unveiled a sculpture by Henry Moore to mark the Centenary of the British Institute in Florence at the Palazzo Strozzi and met British Institute staff. The Prince met with British Council Venice Fellows and finalists of the ARTiculation competition, presenting prizes to the winners.

In the evening, the Prince and Duchess attended a reception and a dinner hosted by the Palazzo Strozzi Foundation recognizing the 100th anniversary of the British Institute of Florence. The Prince of Wales was presented with the Renaissance Man of the Year award, an annual award given by the Palazzo Strozzi Foundation.

The Prince of Wales wore a blue suit with a light blue tie. The Duchess of Cornwall wore a Fiona Clare cream shirt dress with her everyday pearl pendent earrings. In the evening, the Prince wore Black Tie. The Duchess wore a red Anna Valentine dress with her Pear Drop Diamond Demi-Parure.
