Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall in Italy- Day 2

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall are visiting Italy from March 31st to April 5th on advice from the British Government. They are based in Florence, and will visit Vicenza, Naples, Amatrice and Rome as well as the Vatican. On Day 2, the Prince visited Vicenza, while the Duchess visited Naples. In the evening, the couple attended a reception in Florence.

The Prince of Wales started his visit to Vicenza at a ceremony at the Montecchio Precalcino Commonwealth War Graves Commission cemetery. He viewed a demonstration by paramilitary Carabinieri police during a visit to the Carabineri Headquarters. Later, the Prince toured the Path of the 52 Tunnels, built in 1917 to aid military communication and transfer supplies through mountainous terrain, and visited the Ossuary, where he laid a wreath to honour all those who lost their lives on the Italian front during WWI.

The Duchess of Cornwall started her visit to Naples at La Gloriette, a community centre in a Villa confiscated from the mafia, to meet representatives from charities. She viewed a fashion show staged by ‘La casa di Alice’ (Alice’s Place), a social tailor workshop for Nigerian girls, who were the victims of human trafficking. The Duchess also visited the ancient Roman town of Herculaneum, where she heard how international partnerships and Italian expertise are transforming the archaeological site and surrounding communities.

In the evening, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall attended a Wine Industry Reception in Florence, and met Tuscan wine and oil producers, and British food producers who are looking to bring their products to the Italian market.

The Prince of Wales wore a grey suit with a red tie and his medals, changing into a navy suit with a striped tie for the reception. The Duchess of Cornwall wore a cream, patterned chiffon dress with her Four Strand Pearl Choker with Small Diamond Clasp and her Everyday Pearl Pendant Earrings. She added a pale pink coat for the reception.
