Happy Birthday to Margareta, Custodian of the Crown of Romania! The eldest of the five daughters of exiled King Michael and Queen Anne of Romania, she counts the Duke of Edinburgh (her grandmother’s first cousin) as her godfather. Educated in Switzerland and Scotland, Crown Princess Margarita worked with the World Health Organisation and the United Nations before working with her father on causes relating to Romania. She also established the Princess Margareta of Romania Foundation. In 1995, she married Radu Duda in Lausanne, they have no children. The Romanian Royal Family were allowed to return to Romania in the 1990s, and given ownership of their former properties as well as use of some other state properties. In 2007, King Michael changed the House Laws, declaring her the Crown Princess and Custodian of the Romanian Crown, and his heir as Head of the Royal House of Romania. Crown Princess Margareta, along with Prince Radu, undertake public duties for and with the Romanian Republic, and often attend foreign royal events, representing King Michael. They reside in the Elisabeta Palace in Bucharest. She succeeded as the Head of the Royal House of Romania after King Michael’s Death in 2017. We wish HM many Happy Returns!
