The Norwegian Royal Family will be hosting President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson of Iceland next week. The programme includes a glittering State Banquet at the Royal Palace of Osla on the evening of the 21st. In honour of the upcoming State Visit, we have been featuring past Icelandic State Visits to Norway. Today, we are flashing back to the 1981 Icelandic State Visit made by President Finnbogadottir, the world’s first democratically directly elected female president. For the State Banquet in the Royal Palace of Oslo, then Crown Princess Sonja wore the Norwegian Emerald Parure. Princess Astrid behind her wore the Vasa Tiara.
