Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey 2017

Queen Elizabeth II, Head of the Commonwealth, was accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince of Wales & Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry, Duke of York and Earl of Wessex to attend the Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey for Commonwealth Day– March 13th- in London. Earlier in the day, the Queen launched the Baton relay for the Commonwealth games.

The Queen was accompanied by members of the Royal Family for the Commonwealth Service, the largest annual inter-faith gathering in the United Kingdom, at Westminster Abbey. Highlights of the Service included performances by Australian musician, Cody Simpson, George the Poet, Canadian soprano, Measha Brueggergosman and Maltese poet, Dr Immanuel Misfud. It concluded with a procession of Commonwealth Flags. The Queen is the Head of the Commonwealth, an intergovernmental organization of 52 former states of the British Empire, representing almost 2.5 billion people. This year’s theme was ‘A Peace-Building Commonwealth’, reaffirming the Commonwealth Charter principle that “international peace and security, sustainable economic growth and development and the rule of law are essential to the progress and prosperity of all.”

The Queen wore a yellow coat and hat with her Three Strand Pearl Necklace and Australian Wattle Brooch. The Duke of Edinburgh wore a navy suit with a patterned tie. The Prince of Wales wore a blue suit with a patterned tie. The Duchess of Cornwall wore a purple suit and hat with her Everyday Pearl Pendant Earrings and Four Strand Pearl Choker with Large Diamond Clasp.
