Investiture at Buckingham Palace

Queen Elizabeth II held an Investiture on March 7th in the Ballroom at Buckingham Palace. The British Honours system recognizes outstanding achievements, personal bravery and services to the UK and British Overseas Territories. Around 25 Investitures are held each year, and over fifty recipients attend each ceremony.

The Queen entered the Ballroom attended by two Gurkha orderly officers, a tradition begun by Queen Victoria in 1876, before placing the decoration on each person and congratulating them on their honour. Among the recipients at this investiture were; Olympic Rower Katherine Grainger who was made a Dame Commander for services to sport and to charity, Welsh opera singer Bryn Jones was knighted, dressage rider Charlotte Dujardin was made a CBE in recognition of her Olympic success, and Geoff Stock, who has run the Horfield Young People’s Club for 42 years, was recognised with an MBE.
