UK India Reception at Buckingham Palace

The Queen hosted a reception to mark the launch of the UK India Year of Culture 2017 at Buckingham Palace on February 27th. She was joined by the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Earl of Wessex, Princess Eugenie and and other members of the Royal Family.The reception brought together the best of British and Indian culture and creativity, in honour of the 70th anniversary of India’s Independence this year. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited India last year.

The Queen was joined by the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge, the Earl of Wessex, Princess Eugenie of York, the Duke & Duchess of Gloucester, and Prince & Princess Michael of Kent, as she gave a reception to mark the launch of the UK India Year of Culture 2017. The Royals met with guests who brought together the best of British and Indian culture and looked at objects on display in the Queen’s gallery. The 2017 UK-India Year of Culture will celebrate the deep cultural ties and the 70th anniversary of India’s Independence through a year-long programme of events and exhibitions which will take place in both countries.

The Queen wore a gold-shot purple Stewart Parvin dress, pairing her customary Three Strand Pearl Necklace with the Kent Amethyst Brooch. The Duchess of Cambridge wore the Erdem “Rhona’ dress with new Anita Dongre earrings.

Before the reception, the Royal Family account on twitter released pictures of some of the preparations, and of the 5,000 canapes, from Raj Puri and Soya Gujjia to Salmon Blinis and Crème Brûlée. Indian Dancers greeted the guests on arrival. Gifts from India on display, including a Wedding Gift to the Queen of lace spun by Gandhi. A special projection was designed for the front of Buckingham Palace, featuring a peacock design, which is celebrated as the national bird of India, and dancer motifs, representing the country and culture.
