Funeral of King of Denmark, 1972

January 14 marks the 45th death Anniversary of King Frederik IX of Denmark, who died after a brief illness and a heart attack on the evening of January 14, 1972. Here, we take a look at the family and guests at his funeral at Roskilde Cathedral on January 24th.  From L-R; In the first row; Queen Ingrid (King Frederik’s Widow), Queen Margrethe II (King Frederik eldest daughter and heir) and Prince Henrik. Behind them are King Constantine II of the Hellenes, his wife, Queen-Anne Marie (youngest daughter), Princess Benedikte of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg (middle daughter) and her husband, Prince Richard of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg. Among the royal guests in the background are King Gustaf VI Adolf of Sweden (King Frederik father-in-law), Princess Sibylla of Sweden, King Olav V of Norway (his cousin), Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg, Queen Juliana of the Netherlands, the Duke of Edinburgh, and Prince Rainer of Monaco.
