Queen Alexandrine of Denmark, grandmother of Queen Margrethe II, died on this day in 1952. To honour Queen Alexandrine, we take a look at one of her hand-coloured official portraits, probably taken during the Silver Jubilee celebrations of her husband, King Christian X of Denmark in 1937. Queen Alexandrine is wearing a velvet gown with the Pearl Poiré Tiara and the Khedive of Egypt Parure. One of the pictures taken during this series of portraits was featured on the Frontpage of a Lady’s weekly magazine in 1939.
