King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands started their 3-day State Visit to New Zealand on November 7th in Wellington. They also visited Australia last week. The King and Queen attended a welcome ceremony, met with political leaders, viewed a exhibitions and attended a State Banquet.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima attended a traditional Welcome ceremony at Government House in Wellington. They viewed a traditional Maori welcome dance, the Hakka. The Royal Couple met with political leaders including Dame Patsy Reddy, the Governor General, her husband, Sir David Gascoigne, and Prime Minister John Key.

They laid a wreath at the National War Memorial and ferns at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima also visited the Park Road Post, where they saw a variety of interesting exhibitions.

In the evening, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima attended a State Banquet held in their honour by Governor General Dame Patsy Reddy and her husband Sir David Gascoigne in the Porrit Room at Government House in Wellington. Both the King and Governor General gave speeches.

For the day events, King Willem-Alexander wore a navy suit with a grey tie. Queen Maxima wore a patterned Givenchy dress with a black hat & shawl and diamond earrings. For the State Banquet, the King wore Black Tie. Queen Maxima repeated Claes Iversen gown with Queen Emma’s Diamond Tiara, diamond earrings, and a brooch.
