Duchess of Cambridge in The Netherlands

The Duchess of Cambridge visited the Netherlands on October 11. She met with King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands for lunch, visited an art exhibit, attended a addiction and mental health discussion and visited the social Makerspace of Bospolder-Tussendijken in the Hague & Rotterdam. It was her first solo overseas trip.

The Duchess of Cambridge paid a courtesy call to King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands at Villa Eikenhorst in the Hague, where she had lunch with the King. She toured the “At Home in Holland: Vermeer & his Contemporaries from the British Royal Collection” Art Exhibit at the Mauritshuis, met schoolchildren, and attended a reception.Among the paints the Duchess viewed were Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Goldfinch by Carel Fabritius, and the The Bull by Paulus Potter during her private tour of the Mauritshuis museum.

Later, the Duchess attended a round table discussion on the themes of addiction and mental health with the Trimbos Institute, Anne Freud Center and Action on Addiction at the British Ambassador’s Residence. The Duchess ended her visit to the Netherlands in Bouwkeet, the social Makerspace of Bospolder-Tussendijken, where she learned why the creative workshop is important to the local community., and learned some of the skills being taught. Afterwards she met with the large crowds outside.
