On Day 2 of the Belgian State Visit to Japan, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium were officially welcomed by Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan. After the military review, the Belgian monarchs had an audience with members of the Japanese Royal Family. In the evening, a State Banquet was held at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.

They were joined by Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan for the military review, and later had an audience with members of the Japanese Royal Family including the Crown Prince and Princess of Japan.

Queen Mathilde visited the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo with representatives of the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition. She also attended a ‘Women in society’ conference and a Belgian fashion show inspired by Japanese creations.

For the Welcome ceremony, Queen Mathilde wore a floral skirt with an orange blouse and hat. Empress Michiko wore a grey cape blouse over a skirt with pearls and a modern brooch. For the Banquet, Queen Mathilde wore an orange gown with the Wolfers Tiara and her white and yellow diamond cluster earrings. Empress Michiko wore a black top over a white skirt with a diamond collet necklace and diamond earrings.
A number of Japanese Princesses were also present for the Banquet. Crown Princess Masako wore the Pearl Sunburst Tiara and parure. Princess Kiko wore her wedding tiara with its coordinating necklace and brooch. Princess Mako wore her personal tiara, as did her sister, Princess Kako.
