Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in Canada | Day 1

The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge, Prince George and Princess Charlotte started the royal visit to Canada on September 24th. They landed at Victoria Airport in the afternoon, and then attended a Welcome Ceremony at the BC Legislature buildings in Downtown Victoria. I was present at the Welcome, and got to see the Duke and Duchess. I also shook hands with the Duchess. We covered previous royal visits to Victoria recently.

The Cambridge family landed at Victoria Airport in the afternoon. They were greeted by Prime Minister Trudeau, the First lady, the Governor General, and the Premier of BC. The family departed for Government House, where they will stay during their visit to Canada, to drop off the children.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were about half an hour late to the Welcome Ceremony at the Legislature buildings. They were welcomed by officials and then had a moment of silence at the Memorial. The couple then proceeded to the stage, where the Duke reviewed the Guard and there was a 21 Gun Salute. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge listened to speeches by the Governor General, the Premier of British Columbia, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau before the Duke gave a speech.

The Royal Couple went on an unscheduled walkabout, where I had the pleasure to meet and shake hands with the Duchess of Cambridge. They left for Government House, where they had private meetings with the Prime Minister and Governor General.

The Duke wore a navy suit with a maroon tie. The Duchess of Cambridge wore a navy blue Jenny Packham dress with a matching Lock & Co hat, her glittering tanzanite earrings and the Queen’s Maple Leaf Brooch (which I complemented her on). Both Prince George and Princess Charlotte wore blue.
