Scottish Opening of Parliament 2016

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are on their annual official visit to Edinburgh. The Queen arrived at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, received the Keys of the City, and reviewed the guard of honour on July 1st. On June 2nd, she officially opened, and delivered an address to, the 5th session of the Scottish Parliament.

 

   

On July 1st, The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh arrived at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, in Edinburgh, at the start of their annual ‘Holyrood Week’ of Scottish engagements. HM was presented with the Keys of the City which she returned in the traditional Ceremony of the Keys. The Queen also reviewed a Guard of Honour mounted in the Forecourt of the Palace.

On July 2nd, the Queen officially opened the 5th session of the Scottish Parliament. She also delivered an address, saying now is a time for ‘hope and optimism‘ and reminding political leaders around the world to make ‘room for quiet thinking and contemplation’ to deal with developments in a ‘fast-moving world.

The Queen wore a floral dress with a turquoise coat and hat. She also wore her customary Three Strand Pearl Necklace with the Queen Mother’s Palm Leaf Brooch.
