Later today, the Royal Family will attend a Reception hosted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Investiture of the Prince of Wales in July, the first of a series of commemorative events to celebrate the longest serving Prince of Wales in history. Queen’s Tour of the Gulf States, 1979

For the past month, we have been featuring the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh six-nation Tour of the Gulf States, the first ever by a female Head of State (which we have been covering in depth all month), which ended on this day in 1979, exactly 40 years ago. The Picnics, Races, and Banquets on this landmark Tour were instrumental in establishing close links with the rulers of the various Gulf States, and form an integral part of Britain’s Foreign policy in the region.
