King Frederik X was proclaimed the King of Denmark on the Balcony of Christiansborg Palace on January 14th, following the Abdication of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark after a 52-year Reign. The proclamation was followed by a Carriage Procession back to Amalienborg Palace.

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark is abdicating the Danish Throne in a Council of State at Christiansborg Palace on January 14th, after a Reign of 52-years. She will be succeeded by Crown Prince Frederik, who becomes King Frederik X.

Danish New Year’s Levée 2024
Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary joined Queen Margrethe II for a New Year’s Levée at Christian VII’s Palace in Amalienborg, followed by a Levée for the Diplomatic Corps at Christiansborg Palace on January 3rd. Following the New Year’s Banquet on the 1st, another New Year’s Levee will be held tomorrow, ahead of Queen Margrethe’s Abdication on January 14th.
Danish New Year’s Banquet 2024
The Danish Royal Family joined Queen Margrethe II for her final annual New Year’s Court (Nytårskur) and Banquet hosted at Christian VII’s Palace, Amalienborg in Copenhagen on January 1st. Two more New Year’s Levees will be held later this week, ahead of Queen Margrethe’s Abdication on January 14th.

A month after his spectacular 18th Birthday Celebrations, Prince Christian of Denmark made a solemn declaration that he would comply with the constitution and can now be appointed as the Regent for the Kingdom of Denmark, which was carried out in a meeting of the Council of State at Christiansborg Palace on November 14th.
Spanish State Visit to Denmark | Day 3
Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and the Danish Royal Family are still hosting King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain on their State Visit to Denmark from November 6th to the 8th. While the focus of the State Visit is green transition, the pharmaceutical industry and shipping, the Danish and Spanish Royal Families have close family ties, as both Sovereigns are descendants of King Christian IX of Denmark and Queen Victoria. The last Spanish State Visit to Denmark was in 1980, while Queen Margrethe made a Return State Visit to Spain in 1983.
