Happy Birthday to Virginia Ogilvy, Countess of Airlie, who turns 86 today! The American-born wife of the Earl of Airlie, the Chancellor of the Order of the Thistle and the former Lord Chamberlain to the Queen Mother, the Countess has been the Queen’s Lady of the Bedchamber since 1973, and is also the sister-in-law of Princess Alexandra of Kent. She recently regained attention for giving the American President a strong handshake. Countess of Lichfield’s Tiaras

Happy Birthday to Leonora, Countess of Lichfield, who turns 70 today! Born Lady Leonora Grosvenor, the elder daughter of the 5th Duke of Westminster and Hon Viola Maud Lyttelton, she was the sister of the late 6th Duke of Westminster and the former Duchess of Roxburghe. In 1975, she married society photographer Patrick Anson, the 5th Earl of Lichfield, son of Princess Anne of Denmark, née Bowes-Lyon, and became the Countess of Lichfield, and the sister-in-law of society party planner, Lady Elizabeth Shakerley. The couple had three children but divorced in 1986, and since she has not remarried she still retains the title. The Countess has also been an extra lady-in-waiting to the Princess Royal since 1979. Jewels of the Countess of Romanones

Today marks the Anniversary of the death of Aline Griffith, Countess of Romanones, who passed away on this day in 2017, at the age of 94. The American-born Spanish Countess had served as a spy during WWII and later for the CIA, and was a glamorous socialite who was friends with the Duchess of Windsor (who she once involved in a plot), Princess Grace of Monaco, Audrey Hepburn and Jacqueline Kennedy among others. A member of the International Best Dressed List since 1962, the late Countess had a large collection of magnificent jewels, a couple of which she auctioned at Sotheby’s in Geneva in 2011.
