Royal Guests at the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II 

Royal Guests and Relatives from around the world joined date British Royal Family to celebrate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on this day in 1953, 70 years ago, which remains unparalleled in splendour despite the many more Royal Guests at last month’s Coronation of King Charles!

The British Royal Family were led by the Queen Mother (wearing her Crown, three Rivières, and Queen Victoria’s Fringe Brooch) and Princess Margaret (in the Cartier Halo Tiara and Cartier Rose Brooch), along with Mary, Princess Royal and Countess of Harewood (wearing the Harewood Scroll Tiara, Queen Victoria’s Sapphire Necklace and her Russian Sapphire Devant de Corsage).

Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester and the Duchess of Gloucester (in the Gloucester Honeysuckle Tiara) were joined by Prince William and Prince Richard.

Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent (wearing the Kent Festoon Tiara, Diamond Girandole Earrings, and Bow Brooch) was joined the Duke of Kent, Princess Alexandra of Kent (in her Pearl and Diamond Necklace and Diamond Daisy Brooches) and Prince Michael. Her sister, Princess Elisabeth of Greece, Countess Carl Theodor of Törring-Jettenbach (wearing the Vladimir Fringe Tiara), was also present.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Family were led by his mother, Princess Alice of Greece, along with his three surviving sisters and brothers-in-law; The Prince and Princess of Hohenlohe-Langenburg (wearing the Bolin Ruby Tiara), The Margrave and Princess Theodora, Margravine of Baden (in the Diamond Floral Tiara), Prince George William of Hanover and Princess Sophie of Greece and Hanover (wearing the Emerald Laurel Wreath Tiara), along with Princess Margarita of Baden (in the Turquoise Tiara) and Princess Christina of Hesse. 

Extended members of the Royal Family included Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone (wearing her Diamond Palmette Tiara), Princess Marie Louise (in the Cartier India Tiara), Lady Patricia Ramsay (wearing her Diamond Tiara), the Duke and Duchess of Beaufort (wearing her Diamond Tiara) with Lady Helena Gibbs (in the Pearl and Diamond Bandeau), the Marquess and Marchioness of Carisbrooke (in Queen Victoria Eugenie’s Cartier Pearl Tiara), Earl and Countess Mountbatten (wearing the Mountbatten Tiara) were joined by Baron and Baroness Brabourne (in the Brabourne Tiara) as well as Lady Pamela Hicks (wearing her Pearl and Diamond Tiara). 

The Scandinavian Royals were headed by Crown Prince Olav, Crown Princess Martha (wearing the Norwegian Emerald Parure) and Princess Astrid of Norway (in the Vasa Tiara), along with their cousin, Prince Axel of Denmark and the Crown Princess’ sister, Princess Margaretha of Sweden and Denmark (wearing the Danish Pearl Poiré Tiara), who represented Denmark while Prince Bertil of Sweden was Sweden’s representative. 

The Benelux Countries were led by Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, along with newlyweds Hereditary Grand Duke Jean and Hereditary Grand Duchess Joséphine Charlotte of Luxembourg (wearing the Belgian Scroll Tiara and Congo Diamond Necklace), as well as her brother, Prince Albert of Belgium. 

Greece was represented by Prince George and Princess Marie of Greece (in the Cartier Olive Wreath Tiara, Diamond Stars and Queen Olga’s Pearl Brooch) along with their daughter, Princess Eugenie (wearing her Diamond Tiara and the Castel Duino Sapphire Necklace), and her husband, Prince Raymundo della Torre e Tasso, Duke of Castel Duino.  

Other Foreign Royalty included the Count and Countess of Barcelona (in the Spanish Fleur-de-Lys Tiara), Crown Prince Akihito of Japan, Prince Pierre of Monaco, Crown Prince of Laos, the Hereditary Prince of Vietnam, the Crown Prince of Ethiopia, the Crown Prince of Iraq, Prince Fahad Ibn Abdul Aziz, Prince Himalayapratrap Vir Vikram Shah and Princess Princep of Nepal, Prince Karl Alfred and Princess Agnes of Liechtenstein (wearing Empress Marie-Louise’s Topaz Parure),  Shah Wali Khan of Afghanistan, Prince Sisowath Monireth  of Cambodia,  Prince and Princess Chula Chakrabongse of Thailand,  Prince Saif Al Islam Al Hassan of Yemen, and The Nabil Suleyman Daoud of Egypt. 

Commonwealth Royalty included Queen Salote of Tonga, Sultan and the Sultanah of Johor (wearing the Johor Diamond Tiara), Sultan and Raja of Selangor, Sultan of Perak, Sultan of Brunei, Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan of Lahej, Sultan and the Sultanah of Zanzibar, Sheikh of Bahrain, Sheikh of Kuwait and Sheikh Ahmad bin Ali Al Thani of Qatar.

The British Aristocracy was out in full splendour for the last time, including the Duke, Duchess (in the Devonshire Tiara), and Dowager Duchess of Devonshire (wearing the Devonshire Coronet), the Duke, Duchess (in the Northumberland Tiara), and Dowager Duchess of Northumberland (wearing the Northumberland Coronet), the Duke and Duchess of Norfolk (in the Norfolk Tiara), the Duke and Duchess of Argyll (wearing the Diamond Shamrock Tiara),  the Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch (in the Buccleuch Diamond Belt Tiara), the Duke and Duchess of Marlborough (wearing the Marlborough Tiara),  the Duke and Duchess of Portland (in the Portland Tiara),  the Duke and Duchess of Westminster (wearing the Westminster Halo), the Marquess and Marchioness of Cholmondely (in the French Sapphire Parure), the Marquess and Marchioness of Anglesey (wearing the Anglesey Tiara), the Earl and Countess of Leicester (in the Leicester Tiara), the Earl and Countess Spencer (wearing the Spencer Honeysuckle Tiara), the Earl and Countess of Rosse (in the Rosse Emerald Tiara), and Lady Churchill (wearing the Cartier Essex Tiara).
