Thai State Visit to the Netherlands, 1960

The Dutch Royal Family welcomed King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit of Thailand on this day in 1960, at the start of their State Visit to The Netherlands, the highlight of which was the State Banquet hosted by Queen Juliana (wearing the Mellerio Ruby Tiara and the Order of the Royal House of Chakri) and Prince Bernhard (in the Order of the Royal House of Chakri) in honour of King Bhumibol (in the Order of the Netherlands Lion) and Queen Sirikit (wearing the Order of the Netherlands Lion) at the Royal Palace of Amsterdam. Crown Princess Beatrix (wearing the Antique Pearl Tiara and the Order of the Royal House of Chakri) and Princess Irene (in the Aquamarine Tiara and the Order of the Royal House of Chakri) were also present.

Queen Juliana (wearing the Emerald Tiara and Parure) and Prince Bernhard also accompanied King Bhumibol and Queen Sirikit (wearing her Floral Bandeau Tiara and Diamond Fringe Necklace) for a Gala Concert by Royal Military Chapel in the Kurzaal in The Hague. The Netherlands was the second last stop on King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit’s monumental State Visits around Europe in the Fall of 1960, which included visits to the United KingdomGermany, Portugal, Switzerland, DenmarkNorwaySweden, Italy, the Vatican, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, and Spain, eventually ending in November with their return to Thailand.
