French President Charles de Gaulle and Madame de Gaulle hosted King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit of Thailand on their State Visit to France on this day in 1960, which began with an Official Welcome and a State Banquet at the Élysée Palace in Paris.

Other events included a Luncheon at the Palace of Versailles, a Reception for the Thai Community in Paris, and a magnificent Gala Performance attended by the King and Queen (wearing her Thai Tiara, Diamond Fringe Necklace, and the Order of the Royal House of Chakri) along with the President and Madame de Gaulle at the Paris Opera House. France was a stop on King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit’s monumental State Visits around Europe in the Fall of 1960, which included visits to the United Kingdom, Germany, Portugal, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Italy, the Vatican, Belgium, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, and Spain, eventually ending in November with their return to Thailand.
