Princess Märtha Louise’s Diamond Necklace

Happy Birthday to Princess Märtha Louise of Norway, who turns 49 today! The only daughter of King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway, and the only Princess of the Blood of her generation, Princess Märtha Louise has developed quite a nice jewellery collection, including King Olav’s Gift Tiara, her Moonstone and Diamond Demi-Parure, her Diamond Chandelier Earrings and this Diamond Necklace!

Am Edwardian design of delicate diamond swags, the Diamond Necklace was an 18th Birthday gift to Princess Märtha Louise from her parents, and worn for the first time, with King Olav’s Gift Tiara a gift from her grandfather, at her 18th Birthday Gala in 1989. The Necklace was also worn for a variety of events in the 1990s, including a Swedish State Visit and Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik’s 25th Wedding Anniversary.

One of the more recent appearences of this necklace was at King Harald 70th Birthday in 2007, though Princess Märtha Louise has attended very few gala events since then. Lets hope this delicate piece makes a reappearance soon!

  1. I agree: hopefully we will see this lovely necklace again very soon. I have always wondered how it would look like worn as a tiara. It sort of have that shape, although I am not sure that it would wor or even be possible.
