Thai State Visit to Denmark, 1960

King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid of Denmark hosted King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit of Thailand on their State Visit to Denmark on this day in 1960, the highlight of which was a State Banquet at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen hosted by King Frederik (wearing the Order of the Royal House of Chakri and the Order of Chula Chom Klao) and Queen Ingrid (in the Pearl Poiré Tiara and Parure and the Order of the Royal House of Chakri) in honour of the Thai King (wearing the Order of the Elephant) and Queen (in the Order of the Elephant).

The State Visit ended with a magnificent Return Banquet hosted by King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit in honour of King Frederik and Queen Ingrid (wearing the Danish Ruby Parure) and also attended by the extended Danish Royal Family, including Crown Princess Margrethe (in the Alexandrine Drop Tiara and the Order of the Royal House of Chakri), Prince Ingolf of Denmark, and Count Flemming and Countess Ruth of Rosenborg (in Princess Ingeborg’s Diamond Tiara). Denmark was a stop on King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit’s monumental State Visits around Europe in the Fall of 1960, which included visits to the United KingdomGermany, Portugal, Switzerland, DenmarkNorwaySweden, Italy, the Vatican, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, and Spain, eventually ending in November with their return to Thailand.

  1. A wonderful post (as usual)! I really enjoyed reading it. I especially enjoyed seeing some of the photos which I had not previously seen. There is one where the Danish Queen is not wearing a tiara. Is this at a third event during this state visit, or did she remove her tiara at one point during the return banquet (because she is wearing the rest of the ruby parure by the looks of it)?
