The Christening of Infanta Cristina of Spain, daughter of Prince (later King) Juan Carlos of Spain and Princess Sofia of Greece, at the Palacio de La Zarzuela on this day in 1965, in a ceremony officiated by the Archbishop of Madrid and her godparents Infanta Maria Cristina of Spain (great-aunt) and the Duke of Anjou and Cádiz (her first cousin once removed). Her grandmother, the Countess of Barcelona (wearing her Ruby Clip Brooch), was present along with General and Lady Franco.

  1. I can’t help but notice how serious everyone is in these photos. It was such a happy occasion and yet they all have long faces. I guess the Caudillo wasn’t much for levity and the royals were all tense around him. I believe Infanta Maria Cristina’s sister is Infanta Beatriz, the great-grandmother of Princess Sibilla of Luxembourg.

      1. By golly, I think you’re right! It was the second girl in a row and I guess they were getting nervous. I guess they preferred a male heir even though women were and are able to inherit!
