The Wedding of Princess Maria Francesca of Savoy, the youngest child of King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy and Princess Elena of Montenegro (wearing her Pearl and Diamond Tiara), and Prince Luigi of Bourbon-Parma, the son of Robert I, the Duke of Parma and Infanta Maria Antonia of Portugal, in the Pauline Chapel of the Quirinale Palace in Rome on this day in 1939, followed by an audience with Pope Pius XI at the Vatican. The couple had four children, and were interned by the Nazis during WWII, before residing in France until his death in 1967 and hers in 2001.
