The Duchess of Brabant, Heiress to the Belgian Throne, celebrated her 18th Birthday in a ceremony in the Throne Room of the Royal Palace in Brussels, with members of the Royal Family, including King Philippe, Queen Mathilde, Prince Gabriel, Prince Emmanuel, Prince Eléonore, King Albert, Queen Paola, Princess Astrid, Prince Laurent, Princess Claire, and Archduke Amedeo, on October 25th. Eighty other 18-year olds, born in 2001, were also invited, along with officials, palace staff, former teachers and family friends. King Philippe gave a speech after which the Duchess received the Order of Leopold, Belgium’s highest and oldest Honour, before she gave her own speech. The ceremony included performances by violinists Lorenzo Gatto and Sylvia Huang, the Royal Ballet School of Antwerp, singer Blanche, and a speech by five contemporaries of the Princess.
