Crown Princess Cecilie of Prussia

Today marks the Anniversary of the Birth of Crown Princess Cecilie of Prussia, was was born on this day in 1886. Born Duchess Cecilie of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, she was a daughter of Grand Duke Frederick Francis III of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Grand Duchess Anastasia Mikhailovna of Russia, sister of Grand Duke Frederick Francis IV of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Queen Alexandrine of Denmark, and grew up between Schwerin, Cannes and Russia. In 1905, she married Crown Prince Wilhelm of Germany, having four sons and two daughters, though the marriage was unhappy. After the fall of the German monarchy, at the end of World War I, the couple separated, and Crown Princess Cecile continued to live at the Cecilienhof Palace in Potsdam throughout the interwar era and the Second World War, only fleeing with the advance of Soviet troops in 1945, when she moved to Bad Kissingen and then Stuttgart, where she published her memoirs, Remembrances, before her death in 1954.
