The Wedding of Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany, youngest son of Queen Victoria, and Princess Helena of Waldeck and Pyrmont, daughter of the 3rd Prince of Waldeck and Pyrmont and Princess Helena of Nassau, at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle on this day in 1882. Royal attendees included Queen Victoria (mother of the groom, wearing her Small Diamond Crown with the Order of the Garter), the Prince (father of the bride, in the Order of the Garter and the Order of the Netherlands Lion) and Princess of Waldeck and Pyrmont (mother of the bride), King William III (brother-in-law of the bride, wearing the Order of the Garter and the Order of the Netherlands Lion) and Queen Emma of The Netherlands (sister of the bride, in the ), the Prince (wearing the Order of the Garter and the Order of the Netherlands Lion) and Princess of Wales (sister-in-law of the groom, in her Stuart Tiara), and Grand Duke Ludwig IV of Hesse and by Rhine (brother-in-law of the groom, wearing the Ludwig Order and the  Order of the Garter ) among a series of Guests and Relatives. The Duke and Duchess of Albany had two children, Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone and the Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, but the Duke tragically died before his son’s birth, due to a cerebral haemorrhage caused by his Haemophilia. Through their son, they are the great-grandparents of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.
