Funeral of Queen Victoria Eugenie, 1969

The Funeral of Queen Victoria Eugenie of Spain in the Church of the Sacred Heart in Lausanne on this day in 1969, followed by the burial in the Cemetery Bois-de-Vaux. In 1985, her grandson, King Juan Carlos, had Queen Victoria Eugenie’s remains returned to Spain where they were interred in the Pantheon of the Kings in the Royal Crypt of the Monastery of El Escorial.

Royal attendees included the entire extended Spanish Royal Family, headed by the Count and Countess of Barcelona, King Constantine and Queen Frederica of Greece (second cousin), King Michael, Queen Anne, Queen Mother Helen (first cousin, once removed), and Crown Princess Margareta of Romania, Princess Irene, Duchess of Aosta (first cousin, once removed), King Umberto and Queen Marie Jose of Italy, Princess Grace and Prince Albert (godson) of Monaco, the Duke of Kent, and Lord Mountbatten (first cousin).
