New Zealand State Opening of Parliament, 1970

The Queen (wearing Queen Alexandra’s Kokoshnik Tiara with the Order of the Garter) was accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh (in the Order of the Garter), the Prince of Wales (wearing the Order of the Garter) and Princess Royal (in Princess Andrew’s Meander Tiara and the Royal Family Order of Queen Elizabeth II) as she presided over the New Zealand State Opening of Parliament at the Parliament Buildings in Wellington on this day in 1970, during a 2-month tour of the Pacific that also included visits to Canada, Fiji, Tonga, and Australia, in connection with the bicentenary of Captain Cook’s 1770 expedition to Australia.
