Wedding of Prince Friedrich Karl of Windisch-Grätz and Princess Dorothea of Hesse, 1959

Royal Guests and Relatives gathered from around Europe for the Wedding of Prince Friedrich Karl of Windisch-Grätz and Princess Dorothea of Hesse in Munich on this day in 1959, 65 years ago, following their Civil Wedding at Schliersee.

Princess Dorothea of Hesse, the daughter of Prince Christoph of Hesse and Princess Sophie of Greece and Hanover and a niece of the Duke of Edinburgh, married Prince Friedrich Karl of Windisch-Grätz in a Civil Wedding at Schliersee followed by a Religious Wedding in Munich.

Royal Guests and Relatives at the Wedding were led by Princess Sophie and Prince George William of Hanover along with King Umberto II of ItalyPrincess Alice of GreecePrincess Victoria Louise, Duchess of BrunswickPrincess Theodora, Margravine of Baden, and Princess Margarita of Hohenlohe-Langenburg.

Princess Dorothea wore a Diamond Bandeau along with the spectacular Hesse Aquamarine Necklace, a Wedding Gift from the Prince and Princess of Hesse which had been inherited from Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna of Russia. The Tiara remained with Princess Dorothea until being auctioned in 1996.

The couple had two daughters, and remained happily married until his death in 2002.
