The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh are hosted by Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said on their State Visit to Oman on this day 1979, after visiting Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE, during their six-nation Tour of the Gulf States, the first ever by a female Head of State (which we have been covering in depth all month). Events included an Official Welcome, a Tour of the Souk of Muscat, a Picnic, and a State Dinner hosted by the Sultan in honour of the Queen (wearing the Vladimir Tiara), which was reciprocated by a Return Dinner hosted by the Queen (in the Girls of Great Britain & Ireland Tiara) on the Royal Yacht Britannia. The Queen and Duke returned for another State Visit in 2010.
