Enthronement of Prince Albert II of Monaco, 2005

Celebrations for the lavish Enthronement of Prince Albert II of Monaco started on this day in 2005, formally investing him as the ruler of the small Principality. The Prince had acceded in April of that year, after the 56-year reign of his father, Prince Rainier III.

Events started in July, when Prince Albert was enthroned as ruler of Monaco, with a Mass at Monaco Cathedral, fireworks over the Monte Carlo Harbour, and meeting Monegasque populations in a Picnic.

On November 18th, Prince Albert was formally invested in a ceremony as the ruler of Monaco at the Prince’s Palace in Monte Carlo. In the evening, Prince Albert hosted a Dinner with some of the foreign Royals, including Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, the Duke and Duchess of Castro, and Prince and Princess Serge of Yugoslavia.

The following day, coinciding with Monaco’s National Day ceremonies, the Princely family attended a Mass at the Monaco Cathedral, which was also attended by Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Hereditary Prince Alois and Hereditary Princess Sophie at Liechtenstein, the Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, the Prince and Princess of Venice, the Duke and Duchess of Castro, and Prince and Princess Serge of Yugoslavia. Afterwards, the princely family watched a Military Parade from the Prince’s Palace.

In the evening, Prince Albert, Princess Caroline (wearing Princess Charlotte’s Fringe Necklace), Prince Ernst August, Andrea and Charlotte Casiraghi attended the National Day Gala at the Opera Garnier in Monte Carlo. Crown Princess Victoria (in the Baden Fringe Tiara and the Order of the Seraphim), the Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg (wearing the Order of the Gold Lion of the House of Nassau), the Earl (in the Royal Victorian Order) and Countess of Wessex (wearing her Aquamarine Necklace Tiara and the Royal Family Order of Queen Elizabeth II), Prince Joachim of Denmark (in the Order of the Elephant), the Prince and Princess of Venice (wearing the Savoy Sapphire Necklace), the Duke and Duchess of Castro, and Prince and Princess Serge of Yugoslavia were also present.
