Prince of Wales’ 60th Birthday Dinner at Buckingham Palace, 2008

Happy Birthday to the Prince of Wales, who turns 70 today! Later today, the Queen will host a Gala Dinner at Buckingham Palace, and we are flashing back to the last similar occasion, the Prince’s 60th Birthday Dinner at Buckingham Palace, on this day in 2008.

While it was by all accounts a major royal occasion, only the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, and Prince William, and Prince Harry were pictured inside the Palace.

  1. Wow! Reading the guest list, it’s impossible not to notice how much things have changed in 10 years. The Duke of Edinburgh is front and center, but I’m not even sure he’ll attend this time around. He’s retired! The Queen looks very youthful. Prince William and Prince Harry were both single and now they’re both married. Prince William is a father of three and Prince Harry is expecting his first child. Crown Princess Victoria was also single, and now she’s the mother of two. Three crown prince couples are regnant now- Belgium, Spain, and Netherlands- and a disgraced couple is part of the ensemble- Infanta Cristina and her husband Iñaki Urdangarin. They used to be the Duke and Duchess of Palma, but no more. We’ll just have to see who is present at this celebration. I hope Prince Charles has fun at his birthday!

    1. Quite a lot of royals have confirmed their attendance: King Harald and Queen Sonja, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette Marit of Norway, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium, Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Theresa of Luxembourg, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, Princess Beatrix of The Netherlands, and King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain (no one from Sweden because of the Italian State Visit)! I’m sure we will also see the former Royals from Greece, Serbia, and Romania!

      1. Very cool! I like Prince Charles and I hope his party is a complete success! 🙂
