Queen Sofia’s Pearl Earrings

Consisting of a diamond floral cluster with a round drop pearl, these pearl and diamond earrings have been in Queen Sofia’s jewellery box since at least the 1970s, and are often paired with her many pearl necklaces. One of the earliest notable appearances was at King Juan Carlos’ Enthronement in 1975.

The earrings also complement the Pearls in the Mellerio Shell Tiara, the Cartier Diamond and Pearl Tiara, and Queen Maria Christina’s Cartier Loop Tiara.

In 1995, Queen Sofia loaned her Pearl and Diamond to her elder daughter, Infanta Elena, at her wedding to Jaime de Marichalar in Seville in 1995, which she paired with the Marichalar Tiara, a wedding gift from her parents-in-law.

In recent years, the Pearl and Diamond Earrings have been loaned to Queen Letizia, who notably wore them to the Israeli State Banquet at the Royal Palace of Madrid in November last year. There is no doubt we will continue to see her wear the earrings in the future.

  1. These earrings are fabulous, as is Queen Sofia’s ruby pendant. I love it when she combines it with her pearl necklace. Divine!
