Dutch State Visit to Britain- Day 2

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of The Netherlands are on a two-day State Visit to the United Kingdom, at the invitation of Queen Elizabeth II, to celebrate and build diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties on October 23rd and 24th. This is the first Dutch State Visit to Britain since 1982. Click HERE for Day 1!

After breakfast with the Lord Mayor of the City of London, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima viewed some examples of commercial solutions that Dutch and British companies and knowledge institutions offer for societal challenges at a bilateral meeting on innovation also attended by the Earl and Countess of Wessex at Mansion House. Afterwards, the Dutch-British military unit UK / NL Amphibious Force have joint demonstration on the Thames in honour of its 45th anniversary, after which, the King and Queen, Duke of Kent, and Earl and Countess of Wessex, visited the Dutch patrol ship HNLMS Zeeland, meeting with veterans and soldiers about the implementation of the cooperation. The King and Queen also visited POP Brixton with the Earl and Countess of Wessex.

In the afternoon, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima had luncheon with Prime Minister Theresa May at 10 Downing Street, before taking official leave of Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace, which formally marked the end of the State Visit.

  1. What a lovely visit! Too bad it was rather short, though it was certainly packed with activities. I do miss the Guildhall Dinner, though. That’s usually the second opportunity to see tiaras out and about during these state visits. But, we saw the Stuart tiara, so that’s a treat! It was great to see the Earl and Countess of Wessex serve as hosts. They’ve been to just about every foreign royal event/wedding for the past decade so they’re probably on great personal friendly terms with the Dutch royals.
