Wedding of Prince Gustaf Adolf of Sweden, Duke of Västerbotten and Princess Sibylla of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha at the St. Moritz Church in Coburg on this day in 1932, which followed a Civil Ceremony at Coburg Castle the day before and a Pre-Wedding Gala at the Veste Coburg the evening before that, and was followed by a Banquet at Coburg Castle. Royal attendees included Crown Prince Gustav (father of the groom) and Crown Princess Louise (stepmother of the groom) of Sweden, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (father of the bride) and the Duchess of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (mother of the bride), The Duke of Connaught (grandfather of the groom), Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone (aunt of the bride), Princess Ingrid of Sweden (sister of the groom), Crown Prince Olav (cousin of the bride) and Crown Princess Märtha (cousin of the groom) of Norway, Grand Duchess Victoria Melita (formerly a Princess of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha) and Grand Duchess Kira Kirillovna of Russia, Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria, King Ferdinand of Bulgaria, Prince Harald and Princess Helena, Princess Feodora, and Princess Caroline-Mathilde of Denmark. The couple has five children and remained happily married until the Prince died in a tragic plane crash in 1947. Their only son is the current King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.

  1. I think you have a typo in your story. In the title you correctly state the year of the wedding as 1932, but in the text you say it was 1920. 🙂 Princess Sibylla was a direct descendant of Queen Victoria in the male line and she was also a second cousin of Queen Juliana on her mother’s side. I can’t really tell what she’s wearing on her wedding day. Do you know if she wore flowers or a tiara?
