King Felipe and Queen Letizia will be in Paris for a series of engagements today, which include Dinner at the Élysée Palace with President and Madame Macron this evening. In honour of the visit, we are flashing back to the Spanish State Banquet hosted by President Valéry Giscard d’Estaing in honour of King Juan Carlos (wearing the Order of the Golden Fleece) and Queen Sofia (wearing the Order of Charles III) at the Élysée Palace almost exactly 40 years ago, in October 1978.

  1. Queen Sofia looked amazing that evening! A state dinner involving royals and white tie and no tiaras is such a pity and wasted opportunity. But, formal, white tie gala functions in France don’t include the use of tiaras…. Not that Queen Elizabeth cares, since she wears hers regardless! I really love her for doing that. 🙂
