This spectacular Turquoise Tiara is of union provenance but it appeared on Princess Victoria Adelaide of Schleswig-Holstein around the time she married Prince Charles Edward, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and Duke of Albany, a grandson of Queen Victoria, the parure includes a pendant necklace and elaborate pendant earrings. The provenance of the Parure is unknown, but it was probably a wedding gift from her groom or parents.

The Turquoise Tiara and Necklace was first worn by Duchess Victoria Adelaide for a series of portraits taken soon after her marriage.

It was retained as personal property when the Duchy was abolished after the First World War, and was also notably worn by Duchess Victoria Adelaide at the Wedding Ball of her daughter, Princess Sibylla, to Prince Gustav Adolf of Sweden in 1932.

The Turquoise Tiara and Necklace was also worn by Duchess Victoria Adelaide for a series of portraits in the 1930s. After the Second World War, the family went through financial hardships, which coupled with inheritance cases by family members, led to the sale of various family heirlooms but the Saxe-Coburg and Gotha Royal Family still own quite a few jewels like their Turquoise Parure and the Duchess of Albany’s Diamond Necklace.

The Turquoise Tiara was not seen unntil the American-born Hereditary Princess Kelly wore the pieces of the parure at Royal Events in recent years, most notably debuting it at the Wedding of Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden in 2010.

The Turquoise Tiara and Necklace were worn by Hereditary Princess Kelly the following year at the Wedding Ball of the Prince of Prussia and Princess Sophie of Isenburg in 2011.

Hereditary Princess Kelly also wore the Tiara for the Wedding of Princess Madeleine of Sweden in Stockholm in 2013, with another appearance at King Carl XVI Gustav’s 70th Birthday Dinner in 2016

More recently, Hereditary Princess Kelly wore the Turquoise Tiara and Necklace for the Wedding of the Prince of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg and Carina Axelsson in 2022 and also the Wedding Ball of Prince Ludwig and Princess Sophie of Bavaria at Schloss Schleißheim in 2023. There is no doubt it will continue to be worn for years to come!

The Turquoise Tiara was not pictured after the late 1930s until the American-born Hereditary Princess Kelly wore the pieces of the parure at Royal Events in recent years, including the Weddings of Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Madeline of Sweden, and the Prince of Prussia, as well as King Carl XVI Gustav’s 70th Birthday Dinner and the Wedding Ball of Prince Ludwig and Princess Sophie of Bavaria at Schloss Schleißheim in 2023. It is seemingly the only Tiara now with the family, though they also have a Diamond Necklace, and we hope to see it on Princess Stephanie later today!

  1. Oh, I do hope she wears it! Hereditary Princess Kelly didn’t wear it at her wedding, so I’m hoping Princess Stephanie does! It’s one of my favorite turquoise tiaras. The color is fabulous, it has plenty of diamond sparkle, and the coronet style is becoming to everyone. 🙂

  2. It’s so interesting to see this tiara worn according to the style of the times. It started out on top of the head, drifted onto the eyebrows, and now is back up where it started! It’s a lovely parure, and I would love to see it worn with a colour other than blue.

  3. I absolutely LOVE 💕💕 this tiara!!! Turquoise tiaras are just beautiful, and this is one of the best!!
