Queen Margrethe’s Wedding Earrings

Today marks the 51st Wedding Anniversary of Queen Margrethe and the recently departed Prince Henrik of Denmark. Today we are taking a look at Queen Margrethe’s glittering Wedding Earrings, which have been worn at all the most important events-

Featuring a round pearl drop from a modern pearl and diamond cluster, these earrings were a wedding gift from Count Henri Laborde de Monpezat to the then Crown Princess Margrethe, who wore them for the first time on their wedding day in 1967.

Two years later, the wedding earrings were worn by the new Queen Margrethe for her Proclamation from the Balcony of Christianborg Palace, and were also worn at the Funeral of her father, King Frederik XI, a few days later.

Despite the fact that the modern design of the earrings suited Queen Margrethe’s style, these were not worn regularly, with one notable appearance at Prince Henrik’s 75th Birthday Concert.

The wedding earrings proved a most poignant touch when worn by Queen Margrethe at Prince Henrik’s funeral earlier this year. I’m sure we will see them at events related to her late husband for years to come.
