Crown Prince Felipe and Letizia Ortiz’s Pre Wedding Dinner hosted by King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia at the El Pardo Palace in Madrid on this day in 2004, on the eve of their Wedding. The couple and their families welcomed the guests in the Central Courtyard of the Palace, followed by appetizers in the Habsburg Patio, and dinner in the Bourbon Patio.

Royal guests included the entire Greek Royal Family (uncle, aunts, and cousins of the groom), the Swedish Royal Family, Queen Margrethe of Denmark, the Norwegian Royal Family, Queen Beatrix with the Prince and Princess of Orange, the Dike and Duchess of Brabant, Queen Rania of Jordan, Empress Farah of Iran, and, most notably, the Prince of Naples and the Duke of Aosta (cousins and rival claimants to the former Throne of Italy) who got into a fight (at a dinner the following evening) and left the Duke requiring medical attention, after being propped up by Queen Anne Marie of Greece, and led King Juan Carlos, cousin of both men, declaring that “never again” would an opportunity to abuse his hospitality be afforded.
May King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain live happily together forever.
