Happy Birthday to Princess Lalla Salma of Morocco, who turns 40 today! Born in Fes to a common family, she lost her mother at an early age, and lived in Rabat. Educated at the Lycée Hassan II, Lycée Moulay Youssef, and l’École Nationale Supérieure d’Informatique et d’Analyse de Systèmes, she was working as an information services engineer for the ONA Group when she met her future husband. In 2002, she married King Mohammed VI of Morocco, becoming the first wife of a Moroccan ruler to have been publicly acknowledged and given a royal title and role. The couple have two children, Prince Moulay Hassan and Princess Lalla Khadija. As the first Princess Consort to have a public presence, she supports cancer associations and the Fez Sacred Music Festival, and has also represented the King at Foreign Royal Events, including the Wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Hereditary Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg, and the Inauguration of King Willem-Alexander. I wish HRH a very Happy Birthday and Many Happy returns!

A few weeks ago, there were reports that the King and Princess Lalla Salma had divorced, but those have been neither confirmed nor denied, so for all intents and purposes she is still the Princess Consort of Morocco!

  1. I hope she will be able to continue her charity work and attending royal events. I doubt it, but I can hope! She’s so lovely and looks so friendly. I wish her joy on her birthday!
