Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit in Latvia

Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway are on visits to the Baltic States to mark the Centenary of Independence celebrations from April 23-26. On Day 1, the Crown Prince Couple were in Latvia.

In the morning, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit were officially welcomed by President Raimonds Vējonis and Mrs Iveta Vējone at Riga Castle, which included a review of the guard and was followed by a private audience and bilateral meetings between the Norwegian and Latvian delegations. Later, they attend a Business Lunch and visited the National Library, which included a meeting with students who choose to study Nordic languages. In the evening, the Crown Prince Couple were guests of Honour at an Official Dinner at Riga Castle.

  1. I like Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s outfits for this trip. I think she’s wearing pearl earrings for the gala dinner, but is that a ginormous aquamarine pendant she’s also wearing? Could it be the same aqua brooch she used to wear in the mid 2000s? I think she owns a set of aquas and amethysts which is very beautiful.

    1. The aqua brooch apparently comes from Queen Maud, and is a lovely piece for someone who doesn’t wear a lot of brooches. It is the subject of a future post. The floral part of the earrings are also brooches, that have been worn as hairclips. I think this is the first time she had hung pearls from them!

  2. BTW, I think Mrs. Vejonis looks wonderful as well. She wore a great suit in the morning and a wonderful rose color for her evening gown. Very elegant!
