Swedish State Visit to Japan, 2007

  1. Aaaah! The gorgeous King Edward VII ruby tiara came out to play during this trip. I think this may have been the very last time it did, so it’s reappearance is definitely overdue! I think the Queen doesn’t wear it more often because of some controversy associated with it and one of King Carl Gustaf’s uncles, Prince Sigvard. This was a two tiara visit, which would make it very special today.

That little white saucer-like hat the Empress is wearing looks good on her. The Empress actually looks quite sassy in her beautiful tailored white suit and her jaunty little hat. I’m afraid the magenta “growth” Queen Silvia has on the side of her head looks good on no one. I’m so glad those adornments have gone out of favor- or at least they’re not as ubiquitous. Aside from that, the ladies look great even though it’s been 11 years since the visit!

  2. I ageee about that magenta ensemble. Queen Silvia rarely puts a foot wrong with the clothing choices, but this was a rare slip. The two ladies look very lovely together and seem to have a real rapport.
