Queen’s 60th Birthday Concert, 1986

Happy Birthday to Queen Elizabeth II, who turns 92 today! After she hosted the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in London this week, the Commonwealth Leaders are holding a Concert for the Queen’s 92nd Birthday at the Royal Albert Hall later today. We are taking a look at a similar Concert held for her 60th Birthday on this day in 1986-

Earlier in the day, members of the Royal Family rode through the streets of London in carriages, before waving to crowds from the Balcony of Buckingham Palace. Just like there is a soon-to-be married Royal couple in focus these days, 32 years ago, that couple was the soon to be Duke and Duchess of York.

In the evening, almost the entire Royal Family attended a ‘Fanfare for Elizabeth‘ Concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London, which was broadcast on the BBC. The music selections were chosen by members of the Royal Family, and told a story of the Queen’s own taste.
