Danish State Visit to France, 1965

Many of our readers were disappointed by the lack of glitter at the recent Luxembourg State Visit to France, so we are taking a look at the glittering events of the Danish State Visit to France, which started on this day in 1965.

On the first evening of the State Visit, President and Madame de Gaulle hosted a State Banquet at the Élysée Palace in honour of King Frederik and Queen Ingrid (in the Pearl Poiré Tiara and Parure). Afterwards, they attended a Gala Performance of ‘Carmen’ at the Paris Opera House.

The following evening, King Frederik and Queen Ingrid (wearing the Danish Ruby Parure Tiara) hosted a Return Banquet for President and Madame de Gaulle at the Danish Embassy in Paris.

On the last evening, King Frederik, Queen Ingrid (in the Floral Aigrette Tiara), and President and Madame de Gaulle attended a Gala Performance at the Palace of Versailles.

  1. Now, that is a State Visit! I was very disappointed that the French didn’t even have a black tie evening gala/event during the recent Luxembourg state visit. I thought they had more flair and “joie de vivre” than that!

    1. I agree! The French are quite disappointing! I mean, they have Versailles and grandeur to compete with many monarchies! They should put them to use!

      1. There is no “pearl poiré” tiara.

        A pearformed pearl is a “pearl poire”.
