Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall in Australia

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall are on a Tour of Australia to preside over the opening of the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Australian Gold Coast. The couple will visit Brisbane and the Gold Coast together, but only the Prince will continue to Queensland and the Northern Territory.

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall were welcomed by the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove among members of the Australian Government upon arrival in Brisbane, which included a 21 gun salute and the Inspection of the Royal Guard of Honour. Afterwards, the royal couple visited the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital, where they met with hospital patients and their families and took part in activities.

In the evening, the Prince and Duchess attended a reception hosted by the Governor General at the Sheraton Grand Mirage, where guests included the King and Queen of Tonga. Afterwards, they presided over the official opening ceremony of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games at the Carrara Stadium, where the Prince gave a speech, and read a message from the Queen, put into the Baton last year.

  1. Yay for the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall! They make an excellent team! They always look so comfortable in each other’s company, delightfully sharing good times with the people with whom they are. I also think that mint green color looks wonderful on the Duchess!
